Trip to the Hairdresser! Before and After…

I love my hairdresser. She is the only woman I know who can say “sit” with three whole syllables. She’s as southern as they come, lol, but very polished. Just a quick video with a before & after shot, and a fun story about the FIRST time I had highlights put in my hair…

Ha ha: Sit in three syllables. Boy, do I miss hearing that, living up here in NYS. :-D

(I grew up in New Orleans, and other parts of the South, so I know what you mean.)

Your hair always looks lovely, and if you hadn’t pointed out the roots, I would not have noticed.

The first time I colored my hair, I was about 17, and someone did it for me.

Let me say this: Never date your hairdresser. :-D

He said he was going to give me red highlights, and a trim. Instead, I wound up with Lucille Ball orange hair, and a very daring haircut (for that time).

I had no idea he was upset with me until after I saw my hair. Nice, right?

This backfired on him, however, because I wore it proudly, and made sure I told everybody who did this to my hair. I acted as if it were just what I wanted, knowing full well this would turn customers away from him. :-P

After that, I did the coloring myself, but if I had wanted highlights, I would have had someone do it for me.

Your story about the Frito pie is hilarious. The “evils” of alcohol. LOL.

The change in your hair after swimming has to do with the chlorine, and the salt water interacting with the hair color.

Better to avoid it, or wear one of those unflattering, uncomfortable swimming caps. :-P

LOL now that’s funny – haha

The thing is, my hair bleaches out even if I just sit in the sun – so I usually wear a hat while sunbathing. I skipped the hat AND the sunscreen on my last beach trip -and regretted both. :) LOL

      • Karen D. February 3, 2012 at 2:04 pm #

That makes sense because sitting in the sun naturally lightens one’s hair, and it will also cause color-treated hair to change.

Sunscreen for your hair, and body, as well as a hat is always a good idea.

Being out in the sun is a wonderful feeling, but it’s best to be protected from its harsh effects.

        • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 3:19 pm #

“safe sunning” – definitely something I should practice more ;-) lol

LOL Obviously the lesson is: No drinking and eating whilst at hairdressers!

I’d love to go to hairdressers more often. My hair is short and has already gone grey/white (boo!) and I have to color it all the time, which makes me crazy…

    I need a Slim video soon…

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 8:56 am #

I’ll see if I can talk him into it. ;-) :D

      • Karen D. February 4, 2012 at 2:26 pm #

Maybe Slim would like some highlights, too? LOL

I always feel so sorry for the dogs, and other animals, that get groomed, and then have to suffer the indignity of some absurd bow on them, colored nail polish, some hideous styling of their fur, and the like.

        • Lynn Terry February 6, 2012 at 9:44 am #

hahaha I had this image of Beauty & The Beast. The scene where they doll him up for his big date with Belle hahaha…

  3. Sherie February 3, 2012 at 8:42 am #

Karen’s right – I didn’t notice your roots either. With some gals, it’s very obvious but your color is softer. Your roots aren’t a glaring difference. You have what I call…(wait for it)…’soft roots’. Catchy, huh?

That Frito pie sounds SO good, especially for Big Game Days,

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 8:58 am #

Mmm so good! I could still eat it now (low carb) by just skipping the fritos – which would just be chili with cheese & sour cream lol.

Thanks, but I really hate when it gets tacky. The reason I color it at all is because my natural color is a very drab dishwater blonde – and the multiple colors gives my fine hair a lot more depth. :)

While I’m here, Lynn, can you or anyone else tell me how to track down this photo of ‘moi’? It’s like 2 years old. I’d love to update it but I can’t find the source. (thanks for any tips!)

You’ll want to log in at Gravatar.com using the email address you used when you commented here – and you can update your photo there. ;-)

Thanks for the Gravatar reminder!!! Here I am. Yey.

    Hey Lynn,

GREAT video! LOVE your hair! (it always looks great, up or down)

    Thanks for sharing your story.

I was (well I still am) a blonde and my hair would bleach out in the sun. (especially when I spent a lot of time at the beach and in the water)

I went gray at 35. Can you believe that I went from blond to gray in just two haircuts? (dramatic or what?) LOL

I have kept my hair and it has progressed from gray to more silver gray over the years. The funny thing is that the hair on my arms is still totally blonde. :P

Tip: eggs in your diet will make your hair shine. ;)

    You, drink? NO! LOL

    wishing you an AWESOME day!

    smiles :)

p.s. did I mention that your hair looks GREAT! :D

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 3:15 pm #

      LOL Thank you Gary! haha

I eat TONS of eggs on my low carb diet. ;-)

I drink RARELY which is why it’s so funny when I do. haha

  6. Gary February 3, 2012 at 10:46 am #

I just love your honesty Lynn. You’re certainly keeping it real.

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 3:15 pm #

Thanks, Gary :) I’m having a blast with a PERSONAL blog for a change!

  7. Judith February 3, 2012 at 10:53 am #

    Lynn, you look MAAAARVOLOUS!!

I never put color in my hair till I was in my late 40′s (just a few days ago ; – )

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 3:16 pm #

LOL, Thank you! Is your new gravatar current, with the color? Beautiful!!

  8. Angie February 3, 2012 at 11:19 am #

Next week I’ll be going for my 3rd color/highlight. So yep, I was in my 30′s too, almost 40 actually yikes.

    See you next week!

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 3:16 pm #

It turned out so nice too, Angie – really suited you!! See you Thursday night, looking forward to it!!

I was 50 before I got my hair highlighted the first time. I use the local Paul Mitchell hair college and they do such great things as using 2 colors to make sure you get the best blending into your normal color. I just love it. (I also keep my nails done as you do, Lynn!)

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 3:18 pm #

Ooh I love Paul Mitchell products! Very cool :)

Your hair looks great! I colored mine in my 20′s – when I did not need to. Now I have salt and pepper but it is coming in a little wavy now after losing it all to chemo. It was straight as the proverbial boasrd before.

Love Frito pie, but never heard of eating sour cream with it. In Texas we put cheese and onions on top of the chili.

    • Lynn Terry February 3, 2012 at 5:36 pm #

Everything’s better with a dollup of Daisy ;-) lol

Hi Lynn, I can so relate to your comment about the time it takes to get your hair colored so you put it off as long as you can.

When I lived in Washington DC a few years back for some reason it would take 4 hours to get a haircut and color (anywhere I went). Well after 9/11 I decided that life was too short and I was working 50-60 hours a week at my job so I stopped coloring my hair and gained 4 hours a month back in my life.

Fast forward a few years and now I’m living in Las Vegas near my youngest sister (we are six years apart) and her friends assumed I was her mother because of my white hair. Ack!

Now I got to to my sister’s friend who does hair in her home (cut and color) and it, takes about 1.5 hours and the price is way cheap.

    I love it!

P.S. One of my friends that I used to work with (before I even moved to DC) would be sure and let me know when I needed to get a color because my roots were showing. Wasn’t that nice:)

    • Lynn Terry February 8, 2012 at 10:56 am #

Yeah, what a nice friend. LOL. Indeed :P

I think mine takes about the same – 90 minutes or so – but often I let her just work me in between appointments then it can take 2-3 hours. But I do that when I have a good book to read and want to get out of the house for the afternoon. ;-) LOL
