I’m not *totally* anti-social, but I will admit I prefer writing blogs and video blogging to having conversations IRL – which means In Real Life. Why? I’ll give you six very good reasons…

All the same reasons I prefer email for conversations.
Ditto! I constantly get requests for phone calls or live chats. Ack
LOL. That requires scheduling a block of time (not ideal in my book) and also tends to last MUCH longer than text correspondence. Given how fast I type, and how long people tend to talk.
Hey Lynn,
Ok, I’m posting a comment and I hope you don’t block or delete me. Thanks in advance if you allow my comment. I AM absolutely honored…
I think I am noticing a different Lynn in this video and the last about feelings and emotions. I think that is why I didn’t post a comment on that video post.
I am just trying to understand you a little better, but, this Lynn I find to be challenging. Not badder and not gooder, just different and a challenge.
You are making me think kinda outside the box. Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind being challenged to think outside the box. I actually think that it is interesting. Like looking at a familiar object like it is not a familiar object but something new and different and with all new and interesting possibilities.
I like the idea of block and delete buttons IRL. Pause as well would be neat. Could this really be an option? I need to go watch the last two videos again and then just STOP and meditate on the points that you have made in them. Thanks!
I hope you and Slim are having an AWESOME I could be anywhere day!
smiles,
p.s. I am going to go watch SG1 (the series) first, to center my brain. I LOVE that it was shot in Vancouver and that Amanda Tapping is an English born Canadian. I know “old school” but then I happen to like “old school”.
LOL Gary, don’t think TOO hard. It was meant to be funny.
I’m actually quite friendly and sociable… IRL, even! … when I choose to be.
Cool!!! Just you wait till I find your rewind button!!! LOL!
LOL!
I so get that!
If you’re in an online conversation and don’t know what to say right at that moment, you can think about it and come back later to post. But IRL things get awkward fast… LOL!
I also hate talking on the phone. It’s ok with people I know well, but calling up a company or someone I don’t know makes me totally nervous. So email FTW! =)
Yes, and I don’t stutter in plain text. And I can edit it out if I stutter or get tongue tied on video.
Of course, on the flip side, this works totally against you in Online Dating. It seems everyone on those sites feels the same way I do. So GOOD LUCK getting someone *off* the site and out for an actual coffee… IRL.
haha
Dating sites require too much interaction.
I would have to agree. Admittedly, I did have a profile up for awhile this summer. That was NOT a good experience.
Another awesome video Lynn! This one you seemed so care-free, and at the same time, you delivered such powerful statements about video and just general blogging.
Ahh the care free you picked up on… I was dead tired. It was naptime. LOL. I had to force myself to do the video anyway since I was already dressed.
That would be why I wasn’t as “wired” as I am in other videos – where it’s morning and I’m on my 6th cup of coffee.
haha
Thanks!
That explains it. lol, Wow, that’s a lot of coffee! lol Coffee gives me a bloated feeling, however I do really like coffee.
I drink OJ and water most of the time. I do drink my sprite when we go out though. Sorry, off topic there. Just wanted you to know that your videos inspire me a lot. No, not (for me) to video blog, lol, just blogging in general. TY
Thank you Tammy! I do love my coffee, lol. But just to be clear, that’s “real cups” which I believe are 6 ounces. Not mugs. LOL.
You’ve touched upon one of my favorite peeves about podcasting & web audio/video. Most people seem to speak unnaturally– annoyingly so– when alone and speaking into a microphone (or camera). You seem to be an exception, though. You come across pretty conversationally in your solo videos. Most often the same person will sound very different when speaking alone than to another person. Few of us are skilled actors, I suppose. Most of the ongoing podcasts I download are conversational, not solo talkers. Alas, not everyone can be Lynn Terry.
LOL. I’ve had a lot of practice talking to myself over the years.
My daughter recently asked me, “Mom, do you talk to yourself when I’m not home?”
My reply: “Yes. And sometimes I talk to you too.”
One thing that really helps me though is that I KNOW most of you. So when I’m looking at the lens, I’m actually looking at YOU – in my mind at least. The same goes for text blogging…
