It is so good when you can look back and laugh at past mistakes you can make.

It is so great that yes from the 80′s we have letters, cards, and all those physical things we can keep in our hope chest.

Makes me wonder what our kids will keep in their hope chest.

Lol, live and learn right? I wish I had some of that old stuff sometimes. BTW I’ll keep the answer to that question to myself ;) I’ll just say “I had the time of my life” :)

Hey Lynn, my husband and I have a bet going on as to the answer to your question. I say Dirty Dancing, Jennifer Grey and he says Flashdance, Jennifer Beals. What do you say?

Meeting men online brings with it all kinds of people and experiences  But the love letter was precious.

While I have never used an online dating service, I have certainly met my share of crazies.

I am so glad this happened well before the days when people were taking videos with cell phones, and so on. LOL

As for the guy who took you 30 minutes out of town for a cheeseburger, that would have been a huge red flag for me. :-D

My first thought as you were talking about it was that he was married, so I guess I was close as he clearly did not want to be seen by anyone living near you–like your mutual friend. :-P

My heart goes out to your daughter about not having paper notes, photos, etc.

This is one of the many reasons I feel that these types of things can never be replaced by electronics.

Perhaps she could print out some of the photos, texts, etc. that she has received, so she will have a record of them.

As for that picture of you, I might also say Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing, but that movie came out in 1987.

The closest movie, and actress in it, to about 20 years ago (circa 1990-1991), that might apply would be Nicole Kidman in Days of Thunder.

In any case, you looked adorable in that photo. :-)

Just for the record, *I* did NOT meet him on an online dating site. We were both local business owners. I had no idea he was into that sort of thing like he was. :P UGH lol

I can’t believe you guys guessed Baby from Dirty Dancing so easily – haha. It was the hair! ;-)

Sorry, Lynn. That was clear, but I was not.

I was commenting, rather indirectly, on how HE was on so many dating sites, how it’s hard to know someone on those sites, how many of them are magnets for unpleasant people, etc.

Also not commenting on, judging, use of dating sites at all.

No matter how, when, or where we meet people, there will always be those elements we all want to, and should avoid.

I can certainly attest to that fact. :-P

If you could see some of the ones with whom I have crossed paths, well suffice it to say that you are not alone. LOL

As others have said, thank goodness it turned out to be something you can laugh about now.

Yes, it was the hair in that picture that was the giveaway. :-D

So true. We should compare notes sometime. LOL ;-)

I’ve also met a couple of nice people there over the years. One I dated for 10 months, several years ago, and am still friends with.

The thing you have to watch out for is that it’s an addiction for some folks, and they’re not out to meet one someone, but rather to feed their ego continuously. :P

Ha ha. How much spare time do you have? My list is long. :-D

Yes, those sites, and others of a similar nature, are addictions for many personality types.

They are also havens for predators of all kinds, but there are lots of good people on them, too.

In fact, I think that nowadays the majority of people on them are fine, but one must use caution, and a healthy dose of common sense, when accessing any online site.

Fortunately, you did just that. You listened to your instincts, saw the red flags, put together other evidence, and realized something was amiss.

Now, you have more material for your hope chest, and a funny story to share with us here. :-)

    Hey Lynn,

What a sweet 24 year old. Oh sooo many RED flags… LOL

Would it be fair to say that girls view these things very different from guys? ;)

Yep, Jennifer Grey – Dirty Dancing, 1987

        Hey Lynn,

No wonder I lost you. Somehow I keep thinking of you as being older. sorry! (that is a compliment rather than a complaint)

I think that men and women view relationships from an entirely different point of view.

How so? I think men are much more limier in their thinking. Just give him the facts that will get him from point A to point B. “Get ER Done” type of thinking. Solve the issue and lets move on. It’s more about getting to where we are gong and not so much about how we get there.

Women are on the other hand much more about the experience. They don’t want their issue solved. They want to experience it through conversation and they need you to listen. They need details not just the facts. It’s much more about the experience of the trip then it is about getting to the destination.

We all have varying degrees of male and female genes that either draw us closer together or drive us further apart.

I could be totally wrong here but I enjoy talking to women as much as other men. :P

I have at one time had 20 male firefighters under my leadership as a local fire chief. At the same time having 18 female banking employees under my leadership as a local Credit Union manager. I really got to see first hand how they each were quite different in their thinking and direction.

Hope you are having an AWESOME day!

        smiles :)

Ahh very interesting. I would agree with those points. I thought perhaps you meant as far as cheating, which I think both genders rarely put up with – nor should they.

          I’m 38. ;-)

            Hey Lynn

A friend sent me this in an email. I just thought it was cute.

            The Bridge

A man on his Harley was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, God said, ‘because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.’

The biker pulled over and said, ‘Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want.’

God replied, ‘Your request is materialistic; think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help man kind.’

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, ‘God, I
wish that I , and all men, could understand women; I want to know how she feels inside, what she’s thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing’s wrong, why she snaps and complains when I try to help, and how I can make a woman truly happy.

God replied: “You want two lanes or four on that bridge?”

I guess that God reasoned that a Harley riding man’s brain could NOT reasonably hold all the information it would take to grant his second wish. LOL

I hope you are having an AWESOME day!

            smiles :)

            Good one, Gary. :-D

I thought at one point that maybe the guy was going to get turned into a woman.

It’s the only way he’ll truly understand. LOL

My brain cried “Dirty Dancing” immediately when I saw the picture, before you even asked your question! You look very alike. :-)

Dirty Dancing happened to be my little sister’s favorite movie. .

LOL That was the first thing I thought when I saw that picture all these years later. :P It was the hair! I saw that movie in the theater with my mother, and she kept dropping her keys and asking me to get them. I had no idea why at the time – lol – but apparently she wanted me to miss certain scenes. haha

Thanks for your comment on “The Bridge”. I didn’t think of that but it would have made for an interesting twist to the story. LOL
